In the Mansion District of Wavefront live many wealthy families. Some mansions are huge; some are small. The Lamnifiscate house is only occupied by one couple.

Lamprey lived his childhood as an impoverished orphan, drifting and fending for himself in the Boeto highwoods after his family was slain in mountain wars. At age 8 he was strong enough to fight an adult man, and he fearlessly fell in with a mafia, which nurtured him and raised him as a loyal soldier, enforcer, and bodyguard. He observed famous games of skill and chance and participated in their officiation. At age 40 he grew weary of the life but didn't know what else to do. At age 48 his boss kidnapped a young rich alien girl for ransom, and Lamprey's heart grew over the wall. He escaped with her and they got married. Now they live in Wavefront and their children are adults.

Yancy is shyest and most prim. He lives a life of romance and intrigue, heart always broken. Zeke is a skateboarding prodigy with a great singing voice and millions of adoring fans. People collect his hair. Excelsior is a gridiron footballer and she cooks a mean pancake. Her family is trying to get her to level up a bit, but all she does is goof off.

What have they been up to lately?
- Excelsior is screwing around in a computer lab with her dorky friends.
- Yancy is in a love heptagon with his fencing rival and his tennis rival and their girlfriends and their boyfriends.
- Zeke is starring in a new streaming drama and is getting rave reviews even though he's a really bad actor.

Dawnfollower doesn't talk much about her old life but her influence can be seen in her children's pointy hairtips, happy smiles, and eyeless faces. The young Lamnifiscates did not inherit eye stalks or sockets. They have well-developed "third" (internal) eyes but are otherwise blind.

Both Lamprey and Dawnfollower are passionate birdwatchers fond of larks. None of their kids care about that at all.
